Witch Hazel Chapter one 2/11

Witch Hazel Chapter One part 2/11

“Gosh, you don’t see stonework like that anymore,” Diego admired the fine craftsmanship. “The plus side is I can tell everybody I live in a rock hard house because I’m always rock har- guys?” scratching his green hair, currently a floppy mess of a would be mohawk, he realized his brother had already ditched and gone inside.

Benita stood in the living room looking at the stained and torn wallpaper, the horrible carpet and cramped living space. As well as she could see, anyway, since previous owners (having updated the house for electric sometime when it was first invented) saw fit only to hang one little light in the entire room. She raised a worried hand to her face, covering her mouth and trying to think of a way to gently let Leonardo down. It would be a cold, icy, pig flying, cat raining day in hell before she moved into this dusty rat trap.

“Leo… why this place?” she asked instead.

“It’s got charm. Soul. It’s a good sturdy home with a good roof, room for us and the pest- ah, Diego,” he coughed, as his brother came slamming in from the foyer and made a beeline to check out the kitchen. It seemed nothing curbed the man’s enthusiasm. “It’s a steal. The owners want rid of it as fast as possible and they’re selling it cheap. I’ll have money left over to do some renovations and we’ll make it ours.”

“DUDE!” Diego was cackling as he reappeared in the door to the living room to interrupt their negotiations. “It’s got a bloody wood stove!”

Benita sighed as she looked over at Leonardo. “Does it at least have plumbing?”
